Divine on KSAN Radio – The Gay Liberation Show (1970s)

 

In the early 1970s, through one of Len Richmond’s housemates, we discovered The Cockettes, the outrageously avant‑garde performance art troupe founded by Hibiscus. Their commune space became a hub of midnight shows, and we became regular attendees.

It was there that we first met Divine (Harris Glenn Milstead), the most extreme type of drag performer—bold makeup, shocking costumes, and transgressive humor that challenged every norm of beauty, gender, and taste. Divine would later become a mainstr
